Comments: Honiton is the quintessential English lace, first produced in the 16th century. Queen Elizabeth, as well as Queen Victoria centuries later, had a fondness for Honiton. This lace has a charming, casual appeal. As can be seen in this intricately worked deep flounce, Honiton's design usually incorporates thistles, roses and shamrock motifs. This flounce is finished at both sides; I believe this may have been part of a wedding veil. High quality pieces of the lightweight Honiton bobbin lace are very difficult to come by.
