#1735    Hankie
   c. 1910

Materials:
The finest handkerchief linen, linen hand made Valenciennes lace and hand embroidery done in cotton thread.

Provenance: Hankie came from the Blum estate. The Blums lived at 11 1/2 E. 76th St. Manhattan. In 1914 the Blum family changed their surname to Blount to avoid being associated with the Jews on their travels to Europe.

Condition: Pristine.

Measurements: 13.75" x 14".

Comments: This exquisite lace hankie was probably purchased in Switzerland or France on one of the Blums trips to Europe.  It is one of a group of embroidered hankies I purchased from the heirs.  The monogram letters "MBB" are delicately embroidered in an ornate openwork script. Openwork carnations are scattered around the hankie's edges in a pleasing and balanced pattern. The workmanship is museum quality.
