#2154   Needlelace Wedding Veil   c. 1860-1875

France

Materials:
Point de Gaz needlelace worked in linen thread, silk tulle, millinery wire.

Condition: The Point de Gaz needlelace panel, bridal cap and appliqués are in perfect condition. The silk tulle veiling is fragile (tears) and needs to be replaced. The handmade lace is basted onto the tulle and could easily be removed and  remounted onto another piece of tulle.

Measurements: Needlelace panel: W, 24" X L, 100". Tulle: W, 108" X L, 105".

Comments: Arguably the finest of 19th century laces, Point de Gaz is highly cherished among lace collectors today. Large pieces of Point de Gaz in good condition rarely come available to the market. This veil's design is a riot of fabulous floral motifs - three dimensional roses, poppies, iris, forget-me-nots, carnations, Queen Anne's lace, daffodils, etc. - all set amidst meandering scrolls. This heirloom wedding veil is an example of the highest quality workmanship of Point de Gaz lace.
