#2295 Limerick Lace Shawl   c. 1860

  Ireland

Materials:
Off white cotton net, cotton thread.

Condition: Good. Two 1/2" holes, several tiny scattered ones; brown stains and spotting in areas at both ends of the shawl.

Measurements: 40" x 85".

Comments: A prettily scalloped edge and delicate floral sprays embellish this handmade lace triangular shawl. The lacework is embroidered onto the cotton net ground using a tambour stitch. Limerick lace was the most expensive of the Irish laces in the 19th century.
