#2623  Lace Wedding Veil   c. 1860-1880

  Brussels

Materials:

Fine white linen thread worked as Brussels bobbin lace and Point de Gaz needle lace.

Condition: Excellent. There are twenty cartouches with Point de Gaz medallions, about half of these medallions have small holes in the handmade net.

Measurements: 38" x 116".

Comments:  This wedding veil is entirely hand worked, even the background net on the Pointe de Gaze insertions is hand done. In addition to needle lace medallions there are beautiful three dimensional needle lace roses. These Point de Gaz roses are cleverly worked into the floral bobbin lace bouquets. The many flowers, leaves and fern fronds worked in Brussels bobbin lace on this veil are beautifully designed and balanced. An heirloom wedding veil, this is a superb example of the art of fine 19th century lace making.
