Comments: This ladies undress set
consists of three pieces: a nightdress, chemise and drawers. Each
piece is decorated with bands of ruching lavishly trimmed with broderie
anglaise (also called white-work) embroidery. The curved, double-seamed
sleeve on the nightdress ending in a deep cuff dates this set to the
early 1860s. The chemise was worn under a corset and over the drawers.
For these three pieces to have survived together and in such wonderful
condition is unusual.
