#2056   Bustle   c. 1882

Materials: Cotton muslin, cotton webbing, covered steel hoops, brass and steel findings, cotton cord.

Condition: Excellent. Two brass eyelet holes pulled free of the muslin, faint rust marks on the hoop's cotton coverings.

Measurements: 34" x 16".

Comments: This bustle is unusual in two ways: one, it is in wonderful condition and two, it is adjustable. The bustle adjusts by the inner lacing device, pulling the sides of the bustle together and hence causing it to protrude more. This lacing device and the front skirt panel may have been added after the bustle's manufacture.
