Materials: Ivory silk crepe de Chine,
ivory silk thread.
Provenance: Negligee belonged to
socialite Georgie Smith Young Ridgley Hebbard Wilkins. Georgie was born
in San Francisco, c. 1906. She lived in Baltimore, New York City and
Paris before moving to Beacon Hill, Boston where she lived for over 50
years until her death in 2001. Georgie bought her fine lingerie in
Paris.
Condition: Pristine. Never worn, gown
had original paper tag on it.
Measurements: B, 36"; W, 27";
H, 38"; L, 58".
Comments: Hand embroidered in an
exquisite scrolling floral pattern - very 18th century French in
sensibility. Embroidery design is worked in a satin stitch and a raised
shadow stitch (gives a three dimensional effect) with open drawn work
areas. Even the seams are hand finished on this lovely negligee.
This gown is a perfect trousseau piece.
