Materials: Natural glazed linen, plain
muslin lining, linen and cotton threads, cotton cording, cotton twill
binding tape, bone eyelets, two baleen stays, steel busk with kid
leather cover.
Condition: Excellent, near perfect. The
white kid leather busk cover is stained and torn at top end.
Measurements: B, 27-31"; W, 22"-26"; Front L, 16"; Back L, 15.5".
Comments: Completely hand
stitched, these stays have cotton cording inserted into the narrow channels
to give structure to the undergarment. The glazed linen is particularly
beautiful. Several unusual features of this early 19th century corset
include the long double bust gussets, protruding bone eyelets, baleen
stays at center back and the original leather-covered steel busk. A rare
surviving example of c. 1830s corsetry.
