Materials: Pink cotton sateen, white cotton
twill lining, bobbin lace, cream embroidery floss, blue silk ribbons, steel busk and eyelets,
baleen or cane stays, cotton laces with metal tips.
Condition: Very Good. White
cotton lining is stained. Pink sateen has minor wear; one 2.5" tan stain
over right bust; tiny brown stain at side waist; embroidered chevrons'
threads at hip and bust are broken.
Measurements: B, 26"; W, 22";
H, 28"; Front L, 12". These measurements are taken with the
center back edges together; easily can add 2-4 inches to each (when back
lacing is loosened).
Comments: There are two blue marks
stamped in purple ink inside. One, "34" and the other
"BALL......" The second mark is probably the maker's but
it is worn off. Despite some flaws, this is a beautiful late 19th c. straight
front corset. The colors are dramatic: bubblegum pink with sky blue
ribbons and fine bobbin lace edging.
