#0471  Silk Shawl   c. 1850

Materials:
Hand-woven silk twill, magenta, black and silver thread, gold metallic thread wraps the silk tassel fringe.

Provenance: From a prominent mid 19th century Albany, NY family.

Condition: Very Good to Excellent. There is a pea sized hole next to a crude 1" repair. No stains or fading.

Measurements: 41" x 46.5"

Comments: The twill weave and exceptionally soft silk gives this shawl a sumptuous feel and drape. The sophisticated geometric weave pattern and the metallic wrapped fringe suggest a middle Eastern country of origin. Colors are vibrant. This shawl was probably purchased on a mid-19th century grand tour. A wonderful textile.
