#1986  Challis Day Dress  c. 1848-1850

  United States

Materials:
Roller printed wool challis, brass hook and eye, four stays, muslin bodice and hem linings.

Condition:  Fabric has several small (average 1/2 inch) holes here and there. Because of the intricate print these worn spots are camouflaged. There are no stains; overall, this dress is in very good condition.

Measurements: B, 30.5"; W, 24.5"; Sh-Sh, 19"; Dress L, 53.5"; Hem C, 114".

Comments: High neckline with elongated, pointed fan front bodice and narrow bell sleeve places this unaltered dress in the last few years of the 1840s. The fabric's aqua background and all over pattern of trailing roses adds a large measure of charm to this day dress. The white under sleeves shown in the photographs are available separately.
