#1995   Lace Bonnet   c. 1840s

Materials:
Cotton tulle, bobbin lace, purple silk ribbon, wire frame, cream silk ribbon ties.

Condition:  Pristine, except the silk chin ties.

Measurements: Ht, 8.5"; Wd, 7.5".

Comments:  The net and bobbin lace are a delicate ecru color. The purple ribbon work is marvelous! It trims the bonnet in several variations: it is rolled, plaited and zigzagged. The narrow ribbon has a picot edge and a border of blue. Bonnet is unlined and meant to show a ladies coiffure through the net and lace. I have never seen a 19th c. lace day bonnet in as perfect condition as this one is.
