#2338   Orange Blossom Wedding Set

   c. 1870-1890

Materials:
Tiara, corsage, pin, earrings and assorted pieces: Wax, cloth leaves and tape, silk thread wrapped wire, metal pin-back, and original cardboard box.

Condition: Excellent; possibly never used. Wax has changed color with age to a rich sepia; some orange blossom buds have come loose (easily repaired).

Measurements: Wedding tiara measures 12" around and 4" high.

Comments:  Wax orange blossoms were hand assembled in France and called "parure de mariee" (marriage ornaments). Boxed sets were imported into the US from France in huge quantities during the last half of the 19th century. The set offered for sale here is most unusual, having wired ear bobs, a corsage and a separate pin as well as the requisite wedding headpiece.
