Edwardian Irish lace coat. Ten corded tassels begin as flowers with
folded-over petals; hanging from each flower head is three long
baubles/tassels made up of Chinese knots and coiled cotton braid. The
shape of the coat is fitted to the waist; the full "skirt" ends in five
panels with fourteen inch slits in between. The lace-work design is
three dimensional and intricate. There are unusual and large
geometric panels set amongst elaborate and fanciful floral motifs. This
handmade Irish lace coat is the epitome of Edwardian over-the-top
design.
