Materials: Tomato red chiffon, white
chalk beads, crystal beads, rhinestones, metal snaps on belt.
Provenance: From a prominent
California collector who began collecting antique clothing in 1947, she bought this dress in France in the 1960s.
Condition: Excellent. There are two
small holes hidden in the folds at the back of the skirt (larger one is
1/4"); some tiny darker red spots (pin point size, nearly
invisible) scattered in the chiffon. These flaws are minor. There is no
wear to the straps and the chiffon is in wonderful condition.
Measurements: B, 36"; W, 30";
H, 38"; Gown L, 52"; Hem C, 400".
Comments: Tumbling leaves and a huge
swirling dance skirt enhances the illusion of movement in this
magnificent late 1920s beaded gown. For strength, the all over beading
is worked on a double layer of the tomato red chiffon. With the cleverly
cut out back, vibrant color and striking beading, this evening gown is
an all out show-stopper.
