Comments: Mariska Karasz name may not be known to many today, yet she is an important American clothing designer and fiber artist. She has been credited as the first to elevate the status of embroidery from craft to serious art form through her early 1940s book, Adventures In Stitches. Many American & European art museums have her textiles and clothing in their permanent collections. During the first half of 2005 Karasz' work was represented in the Smithsonian's "High Fibre" exhibit at the Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC. This rare Karasz day dress is beautifully tailored with French seams, picot edged & ruffled neckline, and whimsical floral appliqué panel.
